Notes From Meetup: April 3, 2012

First of all, thank you for joining us last night for the first meetup of the Hunt Bugs Club, and hopefully the last fully meta meeting about future meetings.

We decided to have the group meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month starting on May 16, 2012. This has been submitted to the Tech.MN calendar.

Here’s the rundown of what we covered:

Venue: Clockwork Active Media Systems
Time: 7pm – 8:30pm

Agenda

  • Networking
  • Introductions
  • Brainstorming
    • Scheduling
    • Topics
    • Presentations
    • Content

Networking / Introductions

There were 11 attendees to the initial Hunt Bugs Club meeting. Attendees were from:

  • Clockwork
  • IB
  • Digital River
  • The Nerdery
  • Quantum Retail
  • Code42
  • swiftlinux

Brainstorming

Scheduling

Attendee availability was evaluated, and Wednesday was chosen as the day of the week going forward to meet, with a frequency of once a month. The specific Wednesday will be established, and we will update the Tech.mn calendar.

Topics

Potential topics for content, such as ‘Lightning Talks’ were discussed. These topics will be turned into tags on the Hunt Bugs Club website. Thirty-five topics in total were recorded. From automated testing, browser compatibility to inter-department communication and release process management.

Presentations

For the next meeting, several short presentations will be made based on the listed topics. Presenters and the topics they volunteered for:

Leaf – Bookmarklets
Breon – Run Test Run
Dez – Inter-department Communication
Countryman – how to write a good bug
Adam – QA in an agile environment

Content

The opportunity to write for huntbugs.com was presented, and attendees were encouraged to follow up with Dez if there is interest in writing for the site.

Follow Up Tasks

I’ve created the Google Group and invited those that included their email and marked “Yes” on the Mailing List option. I also created a category on this site for most of the topics that were brainstormed last night.

Overnight Website Challenge User Group Fair

We were pleased to be able to participate in The Nerdery’s first User Group Fair during the Overnight Website Challenge.

We met some people interested in what we were about and hopefully we were able to convey our purpose and intent well enough.

We look forward to any future user group fairs or places that we can get the name & purpose out as well as bringing together web testers in the area.

Welcome to the Hunt Bugs Club

Thank you for stopping by. We’re a group out of the Twin Cities that is focused on topics concerning web application testing and mobile application testing.

While we agree that software testing has a lot of consistencies with web application testing there are important differences to consider. That’s what this club* is meant for. To explore the differences and to talk about the issues that affect our jobs.
